Rescues September 2013
Mac was dropped off here in terrible shape. The folks that brought him said that he had not been fed anything in over a week, and he looked it. Mac is an ex camp horse that spent over 20 years at the same camp being a ranch horse and eventually a kids horse. He's 300+ pounds under weight and in need of some skin treatments.
Rescues May 2013
These two mares were pulled from the CLA on the 8th. They both needed a healthy dose of wormer and feed. Sugar is the older mare, she is about 10-12 years old and Sonora is the younger mare, about 2. We pulled them along with 3 other horses. These two are both available for adoption or foster! Along with Sugar and Sonora, we pulled a palomino filly, a mid aged grey mare, and an arab colt.
Rescues March 2013
*Auction Donkeys- Not yet available
In searching for a donkey for the ranch to protect the herd from coyotes, and watch over the youngsters i ended up with way more donkeys than i could possibly need. I grabbed these guys from the kill auction. They are all healthy, have had little to no farrier work and definitely needed to be wormed and brought up to date on all of the essentials. They will remain in quarantine for anther week and then they will be available for adoption. The two grey donkeys will be available first and if we decide on adopting out the darker one he will become available later on. They all need to be gelded too.
Bruno- Grey jack with star, 2+yo ADOPTED
Boris- Grey jack with no marking, 2+yo
Carlos- Dark jack brown, 5+yo
*Petey the Mini- Not yet available
This little guy was picked up in an owner surrender situation. He was originally grabbed from a horse auction and the people that rescued him could no longer care for him due to un forseen circumstances, so they decided to find him a new home. No body wanted the poor guy due to his age and he's not even that old. He is sweet and kind, he has some major trust issues but is coming along okay.
Petey- black 10yo mini gelding
*The Scott Rd. Calhan 5- ADOPTED
My friend in the springs received a call about 5 starving horses in Calhan last week. Among the available horses there are three mares, one gelding and one stud colt. They are all free to a good home with adoption agreement.
TJ- ADOPTED, Very thin 10YO palomino QH grade mare with terrible feet. She needs extensive farrier and vet care
Noah- ADOPTED 10 month stud colt, small, very thin under all that winter coat. Palomino, out of TJ.
Star- AVAILABLE through Ruby Ranch Horse Rescue 12YO sorrel draft cross gelding. He is also thin, and needs some work on his manners. Big boned and could turn around to be a beautiful big horse with some consistent feed and care. Has a long beautiful mane and nice big feet.
Sweetness- ADOPTED, 13H bay pony mare. Excellent lead line pony, she will need some more of a tune up to get ready for a ridding pony. She is super gentle and easy to work with.
Miya-ADOPTED, 4YO AQHA bay mare. Really skinny, but gentle.
TJ has gone to a good place up in northern Colorado. She will receive the necessary care and treatment that she needs there. I hope that she can recover enough to start make progress. She still has a long way to go, but luckily she now has the care and the food to help make that happen.
Miya has been adopted and has also gone to a terrific place in northern Colorado. I will make sure to update on her progress with her new family. She will be able to get all the food she can eat, and although her road is long, she seems to have the determination to get there.
Star has been adopted and will be going to his new home in Florissant, CO sometime later this week. He has 5 bales of donated hay to munch on until then and doesn't seem to mind at all waiting a few days to get home. *Please Contact Ruby Ranch Horse Rescue to adopt Star*
Sweetness has been adopted and will be going to a great home. She will be a wonderful lead line pony and will definitely make her new family happy to have her.
Noah has been placed in a temporary foster home, and I will be picking him up bringing him her in a week. He will begin his weight gaining and growth journey here and will be placed up for adoption from SVHR.
Rescues January 2013
*TinkerBelle and Daancer ADOPTED
Okay, i have just been notified of some urgent need rescues. There are three of them, and their owners cannot afford to take care of them any longer. They are healthy and just need a good loving home. I do believe i have placement for one of them, so i need homes for these two mares. If you can help them they are FREE TO A GOOD HOME, and will be brought to my place from Grand Junction if they have a home. I cannot take them in without knowing they have a home, i simply do not have the room for them here at this point in time. Here is their info, pics soon to follow, please let me know if you can help with either of these two girls.
The bay roan will be staying here, as i have room for just one spare rescue at this point. He has a tendon injury and needs to take it easy.
**UPDATE** Daancer will be headed to her new home this morning and Belle will be staying here for a week or so awaiting her health papers.
**UPDATE** Belle is here, Daancer would not load so my transport is going back for her this weekend. Belle is doing great, settled in and awaiting her transport south to her forever home!

We went to a horse sale this past weekend and stumbled upon old Rocky. Turns out he was used by my friend for many years when she was younger and is quite the old horse. He has won several thousand dollars in jackpot rodeo winnings, and is absolutely bombproof. He is around 25 years old and is in decent shape, he definitely needs some senior feed and some good hay to gain his weight back. Rocky is available through getting ahold of me and is currently residing at my friends place out in Rush. He would be an excellent 4H or kids horse that s absolutely kid proof, been there done that kind of gelding.
My good friend has picked up a little rescue colt. SVHR is sponsoring his recovery and any donation that we can receive to get him well helps. His name is Valentine, he is a 2YO paint std colt that has been malnourished , and mis-cared for and just needs some better attention. He is at my friends place in Rush and will begin his recovery journey there. He stands at a maybe 10 hands at 2 years old and is in need of some serious vet and farrier care. Valentine is approximately a 1.5 out of 9 on the Henneke horse body condition scoring system.
Please contact me to be put in touch with his caregiver to give this great little guy a home!
**UPDATE 2/24/13** Valentine has gotten his feet trimmed and is looking alot better, he is eating and his teeth checked out normal, all that is left for now for this little guy is to gain weight and try to grow!
**UPDATE** 4/2/13 He went to his wonderful new home yesterday. He will grow up and become a little lesson pony.
*Goose and Chuck ADOPTED
We have two mustangs coming in from up north. They are both gentle, sound and sane. A little under weight but look like they will gain what they lost and be beautiful. Papered and branded BLM mustang geldings. Pics will be posted below as i can get them uploaded. One sorrel and one grey. Both are broke and easily ridden. These guys are getting evaluated by a trainer this afternoon and i will post updates once he is done with them.
The grey mustang Grey Goose has been adopted and the sorrel mustang Chuck still needs a home. Chuck rides out well, a little stubborn and hard to get into a lope but still rides well.
Both of these mustangs have found terrific homes!
